National Sports Academy

The National Sports Academy is a residential English Medium Co-educational Public School established with the objective of producing sportspersons of National and International standard of excellence in sports. The Academy imparts sports training along with general education.The Academy was established on 24th July, 2007 under special package of Prime Minister of India. Under the package, the Ministry of DONER, Govt. of India.

Aim

The primary aim and objective of the National Sports Academy is to groom young sports talents of the country through scientific training into world – class sportspersons in the identified sports disciplines.

Location

The National Sports academy is located inside the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal. The Khuman Lampak Sports Complex is situated in the heart of Imphal and it was the main venue of the Vth National Games which were held in February,1999.

The Campus

The Academy has a separate campus for itself within the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex which houses the Administrative building, the School Buildings, Boys’/Girls’ Hostels and Quarters for the Staff. Apart from these, all the stadia and other facilities located within the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex are available for the students of the Academy. The total area of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex including the areas occupied by the Academy is 168 acres. The Academy as of now has the following buildings and sports infrastructures:

(a) Buildings:
i) School building with Class Rooms, Library, Science and Math Labs.
ii) Separated by Boy’sand Girls hostels (150 bedded each).
iii) Administrative Block.
iv) Residential quarters for staff.

(b) Sports Infrastructure:

i) Indoor Hall for wrestling, judo
ii) Taekwondo training centre with imported mats
iii) 2 Boxing Rings
iv) Archery Shooting Range
v) Standard Swimming pool
vi) 400 mts. Synthetic, 8 Lane & 200 mts. Synthetic, 4 Lane Athletics Tracks
vii) 6 weight training Gyms (16 Stations)

Administration

The administration of the National Sports Academy is vested in a Society by the name of the National Sports Academy Management Society which is a registered society under the Manipur State Societies Registration Act, 1989. The day-to-day functioning of the academy is looked after by a Management Committee with Commissioner (YAS), Government of Manipur as its Chairman. The Management Committee meets at regular intervals to review the progress of the Academy and to devise measures for its improvement.
